Congratulations Everyone!

We are so thrilled by both the huge turn out to this competition and the pure talent showcased in the entries!

Please head over to our various social media pages to have a look at all of the runner up and special mention poems. We’ll be running another one of these competitions before too long, it’s too much fun not to run them regularly :D

The winning poet is: Suzi Mezei!

An even bigger congratulations to you Suzi.

Please enjoy the winning poem directly below.

The poem is written in cut up text over a collage background of found photographs. Images include; a black and white suburban house, a black and white photo of a child on a beach, a vintage toy cow above a crescent moon and full colour beach scenes

The blackout version of the same poem. The original text has been crossed out with black marker and the poems line are highlighter in beige.

Poem Transcript:

The old gods were worn out.

She proposed

her own name,

refused to be pressured,

a goddess

of wisdom,

a girl

ascending

no matter what telescope

was used,

further in the orbits,

on the outer,

something strange;

a star,

taken with the observations

of souls,

the knowing

of the moon,

of the planet,

of what is important.

You can find more of Suzi’s work on Cordite, Aniko Press, and Old Water Rat Publishing.
